Praying in the Holy Spirit

Praying in the Holy Spirit
Jude 1:20-21 NASB95
[20] But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, [21] keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

I love the language of the in these two verses. "Building yourselves up" implies that it is possible to strengthen yourself in the Lord. This building up of oneself is the key to longevity and perseverance in the life of the believer. During the most difficult times, one can find strength through praying in the Holy Spirit. But how can we be built up by words we don't understand?

1 Corinthians 14:13-15 NASB95
[13] Therefore let one who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. [14] For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. [15] What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also.

This passage shows praying in the spirit (tongues) as preceding prayer with understanding. Praying in the Holy Spirit is a heavenly action whereby the very spirit of prophecy is cultivated in our lives. Many don't pray because they don't  know how to pray. This brings light on one of the greatest strengths of prayer in the spirit. Pray until the spirit of prophecy comes upon you and you are given the interpretation. Now you pray with your understanding in faith.

Most people have an infective prayer life because they do not pray to the Father in Jesus' name in faith, they pray in doubt and unbelief. This should not be so for the Spirit-filled believer. When you get a revelation of how to pray, you are praying what you given from the Lord. When you do so, that prayer is in faith, making it crazy effective. Once prayer is sown in faith it naturally creates an expectation in your heart. That expectation is your key to your breakthrough!

Let's join our hearts together and pray in the Spirit and pray in faith. We hold our hearts open in great expectation of what the Lord has in store!
